1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website places on your device when you visit. They are widely used to make websites work, to remember your preferences, and to provide information to the site owner. Similar technologies (such as local storage and session storage) work in an analogous way.
This notice explains what cookies and similar technologies we use on ottersay.com, why we use them, and how you can control them.
Note: OtterSay's email-processing service (the TLDR and TTS email addresses) does not use cookies. This notice applies to the ottersay.com website only.
2. Legal Basis
Czech law implementing the ePrivacy Directive (Act No. 127/2005 Coll. and related regulations) requires us to obtain your consent before placing any cookies that are not strictly necessary for the service you have requested. We rely on:
- Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR): for analytics, marketing, and preference cookies.
- Legitimate Interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR): for strictly necessary cookies that are essential for the website to function, and for the cookieless ad-attribution signal described in Section 3.5, which does not store or access information on your device and therefore falls outside the cookie-consent requirement.
You can withdraw consent at any time via the Cookie Preference Centre accessible from the footer of every page on ottersay.com.
The consent banner is shown to visitors browsing from the EU, EEA, and UK, where prior opt-in consent is legally required before analytics and marketing cookies are placed. For visitors browsing from outside these regions, we do not display the banner and cookies described in Sections 3.2 and 3.3 may be set by default, consistent with applicable law in those regions. Everyone, regardless of location, can review and change their cookie preferences at any time via the Cookie Preference Centre described in Section 4.1.
3. Cookies We Use
3.1 Strictly necessary cookies
These cookies are essential for you to browse the website and use its features. They do not require your consent.
| Cookie Name | Type | Purpose | Duration | Set by |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PHPSESSID | Necessary | PHP session identifier required for server-side processing | Session | ottersay.com |
3.2 Preference cookies
These cookies remember choices you make to personalize your experience. They require your consent.
| Cookie Name | Type | Purpose | Duration | Set by |

| wp-wpml_current_language | Preference | Remembers your preferred language if multiple languages are available | Session / 1 year | ottersay.com |
3.3 Analytics cookies
We may use analytics tools to understand how visitors use ottersay.com, so we can improve the site. These cookies require your consent. If we activate an analytics provider (e.g. Plausible, Matomo, or Google Analytics), we will update this table before doing so.
| Cookie Name | Type | Purpose | Duration | Set by |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| [to be confirmed] | Analytics | Analytics cookies will be listed here when an analytics provider is activated. No analytics cookies are set at launch. | N/A | N/A |
3.4 Third-party cookies
Some pages on ottersay.com may include content or functionality provided by third parties (e.g. the Paddle checkout overlay or embedded support chat). These third parties may set their own cookies subject to their own privacy notices. We list known third-party cookies below and will update this section as integrations change.
| Cookie Name | Type | Purpose | Duration | Set by |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| paddle_js | Functional | Set by the Paddle checkout JavaScript SDK. Used for fraud prevention, checkout session management, and to associate your browser with a payment attempt. | Session | paddle.com |
| Paddle.com checkout overlay cookies (various) | Necessary / Functional | Session-scoped cookies set by the Paddle checkout overlay to maintain checkout state and prevent duplicate charges. | Session | paddle.com |
For a full and current list of cookies set by Paddle, refer to Paddle's Cookie Policy at paddle.com.
3.5 Cookieless ad-attribution signal
If you arrive at ottersay.com by clicking an ad we have placed with our advertising partner Kontext (operated by Converge, server.megabrain.co), the page sends two short network signals to server.megabrain.co: one when the page loads, and one when the page finishes loading. This lets us measure whether that ad campaign is working. No cookie, local storage, or other data is written to or read from your device; the signal exists only for that page visit and is not used to build a profile of you across other websites.
The signal is sent only when the page URL contains an ad-click identifier (kontext_click_id) added by the ad network when you click the ad, and fires regardless of your Marketing cookie preference, since it is not a cookie. It transmits the ad-click identifier, the page URL and referrer, basic page-load timing, and your IP address (inherent to any network request). See our Privacy Policy for how this data is shared with our advertising partner. Because this signal only ever fires when you arrive via one of our own ad links, you can avoid it by not clicking those links, or by using browser extensions that block requests to server.megabrain.co.
4. How to Manage Your Cookie Preferences
4.1 Cookie Preference Centre
Click 'Cookie Settings' in the footer of any page on ottersay.com to open the Preference Centre, where you can review and change your consent choices at any time. Changes take effect immediately.
4.2 Browser settings
You can also control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to:
- View and delete existing cookies.
- Block cookies from specific websites.
- Block third-party cookies.
- Accept or block all cookies.
Blocking strictly necessary cookies may impair website functionality. Browser-level controls override our Preference Centre settings for cookies already stored on your device.
Guidance for common browsers:
- Chrome: Settings > Privacy and security > Cookies and other site data
- Firefox: Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Settings > Privacy > Manage Website Data
- Edge: Settings > Cookies and site permissions
4.3 Opt-out links
If and when we activate Google Analytics, you may also opt out using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
5. Retention
Session cookies expire when you close your browser. Persistent cookies are retained for the durations listed in Section 3. We review the cookie list at least annually and update this notice whenever cookies change.
6. Changes to This Notice
We may update this Cookie Notice when we add, change, or remove cookies, for example, when we activate a new analytics provider. We will update the 'Last updated' date and, where changes are material, notify registered users by email. We will re-request your consent if we introduce new non-essential cookies.
